Women more likely to experience & display symptoms of trauma. More aces strongly correlated with more mental health & emotional problems (depression, anxiety, etc. ) Over time looked at children who had aces & correlations. Bond between caretaker & the child fundamental to child"s future ties. Trauma during childhood -> poor development & coping strategies. Wanted to see if old understanding of social ties was true. Difference between outcomes seeking & the different social ties that get you there. For jobs: weak ties are more likely to get you the job than the strong ties. Old understanding: stronger the social tie, the more beneficial. The drive model -> almost all about sex & procreation. During this time: still believes motivated by instinct. Very much associated with focus on sexual desire (libido) Freud"s early mapping of human personality (the first of the two) Three parts separate into: (think about the iceberg) Things in the preconscious can be brought to the conscious.
