Genius of philosophy, physics, logic, and math. He also suffered from demons of the id. Had very strange ideas for the 1930"s. Hospitalized for mental illness a few times; he would take temp three times a day and take meds for illnesses he thought he had (hypochondria) and was afraid that someone would poison him. Wife had to make all of his food and taste it first. When wife is hospitalized he lost weight and died of malnutrition because he would not eat. Suffered from strange thoughts; it"s okay to have these thoughts but you have to be careful not to act upon them. Einstein and godel had a close friendship during their years at princeton. This is what freud"s version is called. The id is home to motivational urges for love and hate. Eros = survival and procreation, thanatos = destruction. So important to have this because it allows for the continuation of the species.
