Document Summary

Human need structure to survive well together, like customs, traditions, etc. Human nature is changeable and can be improved. Anything is possible if artificial constraints placed on human are removed. The american constitution brings to mind the constrained view. They worried whether or not it would be possible whether or not the king would be resurrected, and they wanted to keep presidency a thing. Hence, they fell a bit more on the constrained side. Rousseau takes an unconstrained view, while freud takes the constrained view. We can look at people in normal situations or extremely abnormal situations. The abnormal ones are more telling because it lifts constraints. In the book neighbors we question whether or not the people represent humanity. The people in this were normal people - ordinary citizens. Shows a beastiality of neighbors, not polish beastiality. Can ask about society and about self.
