There are three classic social contract theories of government, postulated by thomas. Hobbes, john locke, and j. j. rousseau, that begin with the characterization of humanity in an original state of nature. In the hypothetical state of nature, hobbes, locke, and rousseau imagined what human existence would be like without government. In their depiction of humanity in the state of nature, these authors disclosed their fundamental beliefs about human psychology. In the following, we will use both the freudian and fairbairnian psychoanalytic theories to evaluate the views of hobbes, locke, and rousseau regarding basic human nature. In executing our project, a brief summary of hobbes" political philosophy is provided since it has not been encountered before in this course.
