Variable ratio reinforcement or punishment will cause behavior to last the longest (i. e. , be highly resistant to extinction) Reinforced after a variable number of responses. Administering something to reduce likelihood of behavior. Only sometimes effective at stopping immediate behavior. (simple clear commands, enforced immediately via intervention) Removal of privileges (very basic at young ages) Ignore minor bad behavior such as fussiness or whining. Best when paired directly with reinforcements of good behavior. Organisms predisposed to pick up on some pairings not others.
