How does emotion affect memory: gordon bower said emotions function like nodes in an associative network of information (schema, emotion is another piece of info stored in ltm, emotion can enhance memory in two ways. If memorized in water, then it was recalled better in water: bower"s study showing emotional state dependent memory. Using hypnosis gave them a happy or sad mood had them learn neutral words then do some tasks hypnotized them to be happy or sad mood and recall words they learned. Results: recall performance was best when subjects learned and recalled words in same emotional state, emotional state-dependent memory is a very weak effect.
