Our brains are not built for truth: they take cognitive shortcuts to efficiently process information, these shortcuts produce systematic and predictable cognitive biases. In the years after 9/11, more people died in car accidents because they became afraid of flying, than people who died in the attacks: that"s how terrorism works. It"s a cognitive weapon preying on our cognitive biases: we have become increasingly aware of the crime that occurs, even as its frequency decreases, why the lottery is called a stupidity tax .
