Generalized anxiety disorder: the anxiety is not related to anything in particular, instead, it is continuous, pervasive, and very difficult to control, lifetime prevalence of 6% in women than men, visibly worried almost all the time. Roots of anxiety disorder: some fears/anxiety may be learned a. i. Some phobias can be traced back to trauma a. ii. Vicarious conditioning: learn fear by watching: there is also a biological factor b. i. A number of different genes may contribute: maltreatment in childhood is a risk factor. Ocd: obsessions and compulsions, dirt/germ, harming others, balance/order, compulsions attempt to reduce anxiety, affect 1-2% of the population. Causes of ocd: etiology is in part genetic, dysfunction of the caudate, streptococcal infection in young children. Major depressive disorder: experience a major depressive episode a. i. Feeling of sadness, hopelessness, and broad apathy about life a. ii. A loss of interest in eating, hobbies, sex: lifetime prevalence of depression.
