Your boyfriend is aware of things you do, but you are not) Intrapsychic conflicts: superego: conscience/ upper brain (moral principles, ego (mediator): logical; rational/ mid brain (reality principle, id: illogical; emotional; irrational/ lower brain (pleasure principle) Resistance: takes certain things and removes them from you conscious/ awareness. Freud decided to use metaphor to describe pathology. Our brains cannot focus on everything at one time, so we learn how to pay attention to some aspects and block out things that are not essential/ important. The brain is still adapting to local conditions while still being fully dependent on others to care for them (infants)
