Term plasticity denotes two complementary aspects of development: human traits can be molded (as plastic can be, people maintain a certain durability. It simultaneously incorporates two facts: people can change over time, new behavior depends partly on what has already happened. Dynamic-systems approach : a view of human development as an ongoing, ever-changing interaction between the physical, cognitive, and psychosocial influences. Ongoing, ever-changing interaction between the individual and all the systems, domains, and cultures. Cannot erase a person"s genes, childhood, or permanent damage. Ex: david"s mom caught rubella and it affected his development. But grew up around a good and supportive environment. Emphasizes that people can and do change, that predictions are not always accurate.
