Maenads were at rest, deep sleep of exhaustion. they are portraying values in the mountains that they are supposed to be showing in the city; they are modest and sober. Maenads lived with the animals and mothered the animals. They breastfed baby wolves instead of their own babies. This is where animals and humans are equated. The animals and women are in harmony; they run together. They used their thyrsus to turn solids into liquid.
