Document Summary

The younger generation wants to move past it and not remember the painful past. Cambodian refugees were fleeing to vietnam before 1975 bc of the bombing, and continued post-1975 during khmer rouge and the. To get to vietnamese they had to go through the forest filled with landmines, also they had to avoid soldiers. Because of compassion fatigue, many people were less sympathetic to cambodians, also didn"t understand why they should accept the refugees if it"s a vietnam war. Much less cambodian refugees (350,000) than vietnamese. When refugees immigrated to the us, the us needed to create special provisions for then. Many cambodians weren"t skilled and didn"t have the ones to succeed in an urban setting. The us"s divide and assimilate hurt the cambodian population because they needed support of each other the best. They were dropped in the poorest, most urban settings. The largest community is in long beach!
