Many people argued that us should stay white protestant. Every state had a different equation because asians went to west, Mexicans went to southwest, slavery and rights were in southeast, Eastern and central europe went to northeast, native population in. Some asians continued to enter through exclusion and through mexico. California alien land and law of 1913-prohibited aliens ineligible for citizenship from owning land. They got it by having children born in the us as citizens. Mexicans entered us legally but excluded by screenings (health inspections on the border) Jim crow laws- segregation of all public facilities (school, bathroom). Denied backs the right to vote by doing literacy tests and poll taxes. Resistance against this system was enforced by lynch law .
