Mothers benefit by reduced bleeding, strengthening bones, and suppressed ovulation. Breastfeeding suppresses ovulation for up to 1 year (but return of menses is unpredictable) Social and emotional aspects of neonatal care - crying and soothing. Crying can also be classified as basic if no distinctive cry is noted. Uterus becomes progressively smaller over first 2 weeks. Cervix firms and close over first two weeks. Perineal stitches absorb after 2 weeks if episiotomy has been done. Social and emotional aspects of neonatal care - postpartum depression. Postpartum blues - as many as 70% of cases. Can begin any time in first year - highest vulnerablitity in first 3 montths. Anto depresssnats do pass through breast milk.
