Setting up the physical environment: basic considerations: want developmentally appropriate practices, when they are awake they learn best from interactions with. Needs and schedules for infants can change on a daily basis(need a lot of exibility) Infants are vulnerable to contagious illness and over- stimulation. As early as 6 months infants will start to interact with other infants. Sleeping area: high quality facilities typically have a separate napping room, crib. Changing area in the cribs: have lists with the child"s name their diaper size and their cream preferences, disinfectant spray close to you but not in reach of the child. Separate hand washing area for changing area and feeding area. Safe high chairs: will usually not be introducing new food in child care. Parents are usually asked to leave 3-4 changes of clothes in the child"s cubby. Play areas: don"t need to be very large, must be safely enclosed. 3-6 months- rattle, soft squeak toys, washable dolls, musical toys.
