Causation: causation problems exist when the law requires a particular result as an element of criminal liability, the act causes harm, punishing to protect society, exception: incomplete crimes, or attempted crimes. In most cases, causation is not a problem. When it does appear, it becomes problematic: causation issues are not necessarily limited to homicide cases. In the usual homicide case, we have a defendant who kills another for the purpose of (cid:272)ausi(cid:374)g death. People v. acosta: police chase involved police helicopters. There was an accident, a midair collision, and three people died. If it (cid:449)e(cid:396)e(cid:374)"t fo(cid:396) the fa(cid:272)t that he led the poli(cid:272)e (cid:272)hase: yet lack of communication between the police helicopters, the test the court applies here is a sine qua non test, but-for his a(cid:272)tio(cid:374)s .
