Saw how experiment on uhv rays and cfcs showed ozone being destroyed. Saw the pros and cons of nuclear power: understanding how radiation works. Saw how planet is warming and the effects it is having. A sense of how pervasive chemistry is in our everyday lives: some of the most important things our cellphones involves chemistry. How important chemistry is to solving our problems: people work on chemistry and learn how things work and, in turn, how to do things better and more efficiently. How chemistry has created some of our problems. How chemistry works in the real world: not just a pure academic subject in textbooks. How research chemists conduct really work, what really goes on. There"s no general course of chemistry for poets: people don"t usually sign up for chemistry. This one was created from scratch about six years ago. Tailored specifically to topics under research in our department.
