A large piece of this is greenland, which contains the world"s largest national park consisting mainly of snow. Most of these are terrestrial, and marine areas protect some 2 million km^2, only about 0. 5 percent of the world"s oceans. Reserves can be situated on public and private lands, and managed by governments, private entities, communities, or through cooperative arrangements. Most protected biomes: temperate conifer forests, flooded grasslands and savannas and tropical or subtropical moist broadleaf forests. Least protected biomes: temperate grasslands, savannas, and shrublands, mediterranean forests, woodland and scrub, and tropical or subtropical conifer forest.
