Prejudice: is a negative attitude towards an entire socially categorized group of people, often an ethnic or racial minority. Racism: the belief that one"s race is supreme and that all others are innately inferior. Often occurs in day to day occurrences, sometimes even when the person doesn"t know they are being racist. Discrimination: the denial of opportunities and equal rights to individuals and groups based on some type of arbitrary bias. Problem = fears of greater inclusion -> Ex: worker at the hr may be racist, but not act on it. Ex: may want to hire a white worker. How does the process of racial identity construction during primary and secondary socialization enhance or decrease perceived self-worth and future life. Institutional discrimination: the denial of opportunities and equal rights to individuals and groups that result from the normal operation of society. Post 9/11 - all airport screeners must be us citizens. 28% of screeners prior to 9/11 were us residents.
