Social order -- any successful government tries to protect its citizens, from outside threats and from each other. Individual freedom -- laid out specifically in the bill of rights, america is most proud of this. By monitoring cell phone activity, for example, you run the risk of reducing individual freedom but you may gain more protection from impending attacks. Rs and ds lay out clearly defined ideas of which values are most important. Conservatives value social order, then individual freedom. Social order establishes and protects the status quo and accompanying institutions, like the family and the church. These institutions will teach morality and teach how to fulfill individual freedom. Representative government is selected to fulfill institutional responsibilities. 2012 and 2014 election campaigns and the government those elections produced. The availability of information drives people to pursue their interests.
