Papua new guinea was one of the last places places to be colonized by europeans. They did so because gold was discovered there around 1926. My first initial response to this was kind of a sad one. To think that, back then, that most people only traveled to new countries to colonize it instead of attempting to learn the culture of the people residing there. Anyways, most of the europeans who came over from australia left soon after they arrived due to a depression hitting. These brothers were obviously interested in the gold but i feel as though they stayed as well to help the people residing there and to learn more about their culture. First, in the video, everyone who is confronted about the brothers, especially the oldest and most powerful one, seems to be fond of them. Like some of the women described how they were proud and thankful that they could have children with them.
