Asexual - without forming gametes and a copy of parent. Sexual - gametes are formed to create a haploid unit that fuses with another gamete to restore dipoidy: male gamete (haploid) and female gamete (haploid) fuse and fertilize to create a zygote (diploid) Site of zygote development, hormones, estrous cycle. Site of gamete production -> ovary - ova, oocytes, egg Ductwork -> leads to external environment, most modified o: modified for internal reproduction for egg development. Reflects where the zygote and developing embryo occurs: modifications for different types of zygote development o. Sperm storage glands - birds, reptiles, anything that will use the oviparous production. Fertilization = 1st step of modification o. External fertilization - the sperm and the egg fuse outside of the females body. Internal fertilization - fusion occurs within the females body. Don"t need to make as many eggs because of localized environment for fertilization to occur. Ovary is much smaller than in external fertilization.
