Document Summary
A moment to moment awareness of our sensation, thoughts, feelings and behaviors is called consciousness. Awareness is the key ingredient for consciousness. v characteristics of consciousness: subjective and private, i know how it feels like to be me. I can assume the same things about others around me but. I cannot be sure about it because everyone has different way of thinking and consciousness: i am consciously aware of me and my surrounding world, studying someone else"s consciousness is very hard. So our mind selects the what we should focus on and what we should ignore. v freudian & cognitive perspective: freud"s psychoanalytic theory, freud believed that human consciousness has three levels: Conscious mind: mental events of which we are currently aware. (ex: reading this notes) Preconscious mind: mental events outside current awareness, but can be brought into conscious mind anytime. (ex: who is your favorite actor?)
