Document Summary
The end of human action is also necessarily the standard of morality, which may be defined to the greatest extent possible. Basically the main purpose/aim of life is happiness. Objection happens cannot be the purpose of life because it is unattainable and that all men have gone without happiness. More simply, if no happiness is to be had by all human beings, the attainment of it cannot be the end of morality. Response: since utility includes not solely the pursuit of happiness, but also the prevention of unhappiness, there will be a greater scope and more imperative need for the latter of preventing pain/harm. Happiness does not mean everlasting joy, it means moments and existences of happiness and joy/pleasures. Opponents would also question if happiness is the end of life, would men be satisfied with the moderate share of it (the bursts/moments of pleasure/joy) Response: great numbers of mankind have been satisfied with far less.
