Iconoclasm: icon destroying/smashing, 725-850 ce, most icons destroyed. We see more decorative outsides of buildings in this period. Using piers and pendentives to support smaller dome: slide 9. Barreled vaults create piers and pendentives: slide 8/9. Jesus in middle of dome will be seen more and more. All different from earlier depictions of him with sheep and as a friendly person. Around 1000 is when we started to see jesus depicted on a cross. Reverse perspective and schematic contrapposto and muscles. Christ hierarchically scaled larger than madonna (always in blue) 3: using greek cross plan but 5 domes over crossing and ends of cross vs. 1 dome in hosios loukas. Piers and pendentives and use barreled vaults: slide 12 plan. Bottom is entranceway (fa ade) and on slide 13 this is columns at front with arches. Nave is vertical part of cross and transept is horizontal part of cross.
