The hidden curriculum school unintentionally teaches you gender: toys-when children play they are trying on identity (role play) and different kinds of toys. Gender inequality include different kinds of role play. Kids taught what is expected of them through toy ads (explicit: clothes, activities, subjects, teachers bring in their perceptions of gender into classroom. Taught that girls are bad at math-when we look before age 7 there is no difference but when you hit age 7 start to see elements of sexual differentiation and girls aptitude drops in math. 1 view: girls just get stupider, 2nd view: something culturally happens that separates boys and girls. What we think is male and female is socially constructed: have to learn what it means to be a boy/girl. Our way of understanding gender is not consistent throughout history-how we do gender is socially constructed. Hawk eye initiative -putting men in women"s position in comics.
