Modern human skull has been reshaped by head compression (a cultural practice, this large male skull was found at the same locality as the famous lucy skeleton. Caucasus mountains in western asia: most of this individual"s teeth fell out long before he died, and his jaw deteriorated as a result. Members of his social group must have taken care of him: family resemblance, compare this skull, found in south africa, with a member of the east african species. Paranthropus boisei (left and right: we can tell they are closely related because of several similar features like the large crest on top of the head, flat face with big cheek bones, and large teeth. Indonesia"s java man: when this skull cap was discovered in 1891, it was the first early human fossil recognized outside europe. Only the top of the braincase was found. Australopithecus afarensis did not have a large brain or know how to make stone tools.
