Discriminating: against or making fun of people based on race, ethnicity or religion is widely considered unacceptable today. Many people put other people down or ridicule them because of the way they speak. --change the way of speak to avoid that. --it is believed that if they don"t change their speech to avoid mockery, then it"s their fault. --it may not be that easy for them to change their speech. --the way people speak is crucial to their identities: change their dialect may feel like betraying their ancestry, like it"s not them anymore. --deep down, some people feel superior to others based on their dialect. --we tend to reinforce our identity by distancing ourselves from the others. --discrimination based on other traits, like race, origin, sex, is unethical; language comes in handy. --high on education, intelligence and coldness; low on friendliness: new york accent. --low on politeness, high on sense of humor.
