Social brain hypothesis: dunbar"s number (150 people in one tribe , brain size = social complexity. Ingroup vs. outgroups (suppliers vs. competitors: reciprocity and transitivity. Reciprocity: someone did someone good for me, i am going to do something good for you. Transitivity: i am friends with said person, so my friend is friends with said person: outgroup homogeneity effect. Sense of self comes from group membership. Ingroup favoritism: even when groups are arbitrary. My group is better than that other team . We get stirred up when we are put in groups. Arbitrary: a group was formed by a flip of a coin, or by machine: minimal group paradigm. We are proud of the groups we are in, even if we were placed together by a computer or a coin toss. Pain centers: less active for outgroups. Pleasure centers blip of dopamine: why we wanted auburn to lose in the national championship game.
