Region has central position in global warming debates. Effects of global warming in china have global implications. China is implementing energy efficiency, alternative energy plans. Other east asian countries are major ghg emitters, but have energy-efficient economies. Climate ranges from subtropical to nearly subarctic. Pacific coast separated from sea of japan by mountains. Small alluvial plains are located along coastline. Mild winter climate, but subject to typhoons. Northern portion is just like maine, more precipitation, colder.
