Last time we began by looking at: Injectory: carrier gas, column, detector (i. e. a flame test, recorder, chromatogram. The mass/charge ratio gives the sample a fingerprint since each mass/charge ratio deflects to different distances. Causes of motor vehicle accidents may include: Traffic failures, excessive speed, and following too closely. This means we will need a number of techniques and evidence. These need to be really detailed since the forensic engineer may start looking at them years later. Analysis tends not to be done in very close proximity to the accident itself. Conservation is the key - energy and momentum. E = w = fd (work = force*displacement) M = mass, v = velocity (speed) This lets us know what energy comes out of it, so we know how far the car goes. Crush = the rate at which something crushes or crumbles. This leads you to figuring out the car"s speed.
