Easy to imagine and describe, but difficult to outline on the map because not everyone has the same criteria for a region. The criteria used to determine a region depends on the purpose for creating the region. Location; a regions name usually has a locational clue, absolute; areas extent defined by geography, or relative; referenced against other regions (is determined by something less permanent like society/politics) Regions as systems marked by functional integration; spatial systems extent of activities hinterland core (center) of activity with a surrounding zone of interaction functional region structured urban centered system of interaction (i. e. calgary-edmonton corridor) All human geographic regions are more or less liked to other regions. Globalization sometimes blurs regional identities- sometimes paradoxical and some regions become more alike and some develop stronger contrasts. Array of landforms which make up the earths surface, including the physical features that mark them. Each real is a distinct combination of natural landscapes.
