How is the view of victor rios better argumentated than elijah. Anderson plays a more objective view (distance from neighborhood) Rios is more invested in the neighborhood. Anderson: tells a narrative of construction of violence in these low-income neighborhoods. Rios is saying that rather of thinking of it as a culture that exists on its own, why don"t think about it as a result of the structures. (critical ethnography). Not pre-existing, but rather rise as a result from the structures of society. He says there is more to the story (how guys are treated in school, daily lives, Perpetuating idea that culture doesn"t exist on its own (like anderson say) but dangers) society constantly perpetuates the idea that they should be separated. Mid 1970s the state of new jersey announced a safe and clean neighborhoods program designed to improve quality of community life.
