Collection of crime statistics and their limitations: police stats have certain limitations (funnelling effect, 50% of the crimes are not reported to the police. Public perceptions of crime, fear of crime and risk of victimization: fear of victimization elderly, women, those who have been victims of crime before. Categories (types) of crimes: violent crimes (crimes against the person) 85% of homicides happen by family members, friends. 66% of homicide victims are males male victims are more likely to be killed by a stranger than female victims (only 5% of women are killed by strangers) Homicides committed by women are largely within the family the legal or common law spouse are most likely to be the victims. The single most important spousal violence especially in homicide is infidelity or suspicion of infidelity and male jealousy: crimes against property. Stats canada states that most crimes reported are crimes against property. Most common of these crimes are theft under 5,000$
