When you have ckd, your kidneys cannot remove phosphorus very well. Extra phosphorus can pulls calcium out of your bones, making them weak. Over time this can lead to increased risk of heart attack, stroke, or death. Dialysis can remove some of the phosphorus from the blood. Phosphorus (organic) can be found in protein rich foods, such as meats, poultry, sh, nuts, beans, and dairy products. Phosphorus (inorganic) can be found in addictive or preservatives such as fast food, ready to eat foods, canned and bottle drinks, enhanced meats, and most processed foods. Beverages - beer/ale, coca, drinks made with milk, canned iced teaks, chocolate drinks, dark colas, and pepper type soda. Alternatives = water, coffee, tea, rice milk, apple juice, cranberry juice, grape juice, lemonade, ginger ale, lemon lime soda, orange soda, and root beer. Dairy products = cheese, custard, milk, ice cream, pudding, cream soups, and non-greek yogurt.
