NSG 3315 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Melanocyte-Stimulating Hormone, Adrenocorticotropic Hormone, Circulatory System
Document Summary
A single hormone can exert a variety of effects in different tissues or . thyroid (t3 and t4) can cause lots of different affects in different organs. Several hormones can work together to regulate single body function. Hormones make cells react by attaching to receptors on their membranes: A cell will only respond if it has receptors for the particular hormone up-regulation - the cell makes more hormone receptors down-regulation - the cell makes fewer hormone receptors. Different cells respond differently to the same hormone. Every cell contains at least 2000-100,000 hormone receptor sites either on the outside (cel surface) or inside. Different hormones require speci c receptors and will only bind with a cell that has its speci c receptor site. Hormones can affect cells nearby or far away. Hormones can be made of amino acids - epinephrine, dopamine, t3, t4 proteins - insulin, glucagon, trophic hormones.
