Developmental and maintenance of primary and secondary sex characteristics. Erection - vasodilation fills spongy tissue with blood. Mainly parasymptomatic nervous system, autonomic system, somatic nervous system, and vascular system. Balantitis - acute or chronic in ammation of glands in tip of penis. Balanoposthitis - in ammation of glands and prepuce (foreskin) Tight foreskin that cannot be pulled back so cleaning is a issue. Peyronie disease - male develops ber plaques on tissue that covers the corpus cavernosum. Starts as lesion, and highly curable if treated early. Priapism - prolonged erection that lasts long that 4-6 hours. Emergency because blood loss is cut off > ischemia > necrosis. Descent into scrotum through inguinal canal (supposed to close after - if doesn"t close hernia can occur)
