Document Summary

Organizes, stores, and retrieves the genetic information of a cells arranged in pairs (23) 22 pairs are autosomes and are alike in males and females. Two identical chromatids - one is an exact copy of the other and each contains one. Centromere - constricted point of the chromosome q arm = long arm. Dna molecule - long string like dna molecule formed in a compact structure by proteins called histones contains many genes - basic unit of heredity. Structure that stores the genetic information in the nucleus. Responsible for transferring information from the dna to the cells that protein synthesis can occur. Messenger rna gets instructions for product synthesis from the dna molecule and carries them to the cell"s cytoplasm. Ribosomal rna uses that information to direct product synthesis. Transfer rna is a carrier system and delivers the amino acids to the ribosome so that protein synthesis can occur.
