STHM 1311 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Gambling, Dry Cleaning
Document Summary
Attractions and events are the central aspects of tourism; they draw visitors to the destination. Facilities, infrastructure, transportation, and hospitality resources are needed in a supportive role to attractions and events. Some facilities have a dual role as attractions and facilities (i. e. resort) One that is attractive enough to be the primary motivation for tourism visits and aimed at satisfying visitors for several days. An interesting or necessary place to visit on the way to a primary destination and aimed at satisfying visitors for one or two days. Even attractions (short duration, location can be changed) The drawing power is the distance from which an attraction can attract attendance (regional, international, etc) Necessary to serve visitors while they are away from their homes. Need to be developed at the same or after the attractions are developed. The mere presence of facilities will not bring visitors. These facilities provide other services needed by visitors at destination.
