• APA Style consists of rules or guidelines that a publisher observes
to ensure clear and consistent presentation of written material.
• There are some other styles such as MLA, Chicago, Harvard, etc.
▪ Cues:
• APA is about the format, not so much about content.
• So the faults are likely in places like headers, indentation, spacing
▪ APA - General format
• Title page + Abstract + Main Body + References
• Double-spaced; 8.5 inch x 11 inch paper; 1 inch margins all sides.
• 12 pt; Times New Roman
▪ APA – Citation
• A work by one or two authors:
• Name the last name(s) in the signal phrase or in the parentheses
each time you cite the work. Use the word "and" between the
authors' names within the text and use the ampersand in the
parentheses.
o Funk and Jordan (2003) find that socialization is an
important reason for fans to attend sport games.
o Socialization is an important reason for fans to attend
sport games (Funk & Jordan, 2003).
• A work by more than two authors:
o First time: Funk, Filo, Beaton, and Pritchard (2009) find
that … or (Fuk, Filo, Beato, & Pritchard, 2009)
o And then: Funk, et al. (2009); or (Funk et al., 2009)
• Cite online sources
o In-text: same with previous
