Will need to be evaluated by chest x-ray film. Use bronchodilator first before using the corticosteroid inhaler. Open the airway first so the corticosteroid can spread through the lungs better. Relaxes smooth muscle and increase respiration through their effect on the beta-adrenergic receptors in the bronchi. Npo 8 12 hrs before the procedure. If the chest tube becomes dislodged from a pts chest, the pt should exhale forcefully. Removes fluid or air from pleural space. Observe for intermittent bubbling in the water-seal chamber or bottle. Apply petroleum jelly gauze dressing over the site.
