Tunnel that runs in a oblique direction along the ventral abdominal wall. Outer opening: super cial inguinal ring run in a caudoventral direction slit in the aponeurosis. Flat tube: inguinal canal (de ned as a attened space) Inner opening: deep inguinal ring (a location not a structure) located inside the abdomen caudal edge - internal abdominal oblique lateral border - rectus abdominis ventral end - inguinal ligament. Signi cance behind the canal: involve prolapse of abdominal contents (inguinal hernias) could lead to prolapse. Prolapse of abdominal contents (fat, intestine, gravid uterus) that could come through the inguinal canal. Testicles move from abdomen to scrotum through the canal (undescended testes) Fat, intestine, and gravid uterus can get caught in the canal. Diverticulum (pouch or sac) or peritoneum (serous membrane lining the abdominal & pelvic walls) that extends through the inguinal canal into the subcutaneous tissue in the female dog the subcutaneous tissue in the female dog.
