Document Summary

Chapter 1: why a course in human sexuality. All of the sexual attitudes, feelings, and behaviors associated with being human. Does not refer specifically to a person"s capacity for erotic response or to sexual acts, but rather to a dimension of one"s personality. Your sexuality is a part of you. Do you have to be sexually active to have sexuality: no, everyone has sexuality. Culture plays a big role in what sexuality is seen as right (or moral) or even what is sexual at all: breasts aren"t always seen as sexual, especially in other cultures. Determining what is right or normal is not our goal. We want to fit in and be like other people. Want to share interests with others and feel socially acceptable. Throughout the semester, we will see a lot of statistics about what is common. But what is typical depends (again!) on age, biological sex, race, history/time.
