Designing operations systems: goal of operations managers includes both efficiency and effectiveness, decisions, product-service mix, determines how many and what kinds of products and services, or both, to offer, based on corporate, business and marketing strategies, capacity. Inventory control: manages raw materials, work in progress, finished goods, and products in transit, we don"t want any of these to be sitting for a while, aka materials control. Improved quality can lower costs: total quality management, strategic commitment by top management to change its whole approach to business to make quality a guiding factor in everything the organization does, sometimes called quality assurance. Tqm tools and techniques: value added analysis, evaluation of all work activities, material flows, and paperwork to determine the added value for customers. Integrate speed into the organization"s culture: statistical quality control (sqc, a set of specific techniques used to monitor quality, acceptance sampling, sampling finished goods for quality standards.
