Old method of producing and transporting goods went cast changes. What the ate, what they thought about themselves changed. At the beginning of the 19th century both north and south focused on agriculture. Southern farmers focused on cotton and tobacco and used huge labor force using slaves. Northern farmers didn"t use huge labor force most of them belong to small families who consumed what they produced. Geography didn"t help most of the rivers run north south rather than east west. East west was needed to connect the cities. The entire country only had a hundred-mile canal. Economically speaking, the northern communities were isolated from each other. There was a wealthy northern elite even before the revolution but they do international trade.
