Document Summary

Heredity is the transmission of traits from one generation to the next. Ploidy is the number of chromosomes located in the nucleus. Meiosis can only start w/ a diploid chromosome. It reduces to a haploid and fermentation restores to a diploid from both parents. In asexual reproduction, clones are made via mitotic division. In mammals, only gametes are haploid, the rest are diploid. These produce spores are reproductive cells of plants. Second generation spores multiply to become haploid gametophytes. Fungi goes from haploid to a diploid zygote. Crossover, aka synapsis, occurs in prophase 1 of meiosis. Independent assortment occurs in metaphase 1 of meiosis.
