Family and friends began to notice the deviant behavior. At this stage, they continued to live as if nothing was different. Roles= job, social life, family relations, etc. Others started to label the young women as anorexic or bulimic . Followed by acceptance and internalization of label. Others" stopped inviting them to dinner, stopped offering food, made assumptions about why one was using the restroom. Those with more power and authority define what is normal" and deviant". Social norms and laws reflect the interests of political and economic elites.
