Existential self develops (2mo-1yr) infancy, babies realize they exist as separate entity from other people/mom/dad/primary attachment. Babies understand they are constant entity, they exist across time/across space. They can do things in response to others. Categorical self develops (1-4 yr) the child realize not only do they exist as separate entities, but also exist as an object in the world, they would understand object that they have property they can experience. Eg: dog has certain property: makes noise, moves around a lot.
