Document Summary

1789 8000 people in france storm towards the bastille (once a royal armory/state prison) At the time of the storming there are only 7 prisoners there but this. Bastille is a symbol of a despotic state a symbol of everything wrong isn"t the point with old france. Defended by about 114 french troops not many. Commander of the bastille is beaten to death, and his head is paraded. King louis xiv called this a revolt. He was told what had occurred wasn"t a revolt, but a revolution: shows a lack of realization on louis" part of what was happening in france and what his people wanted around town. One of the founding events of modern europe. A change in the way of people"s thinking: loyalty is first to their nation, second to the monarch. What is happening in america is being sent back to france. A significant change to the old regime/power of europe.
