You need culture because without some sense of share beliefs society wont be able to function. Also without culture a person wont be able to function without some type concept and norm. Values: ideas held by individuals or groups about what is desirable, proper, good and bad. Norms: rules of conduct that specify appropriate behavior in a given range of social situations. Material culture: the physical objects that a society created that influence the ways in which people live. Sociology"s recent emphasis on the importance of understanding the role of culture in daily life. Sociology used to think of culture as a deterministic set of norms and values that imposed itself on passive people from the macro level.
